Current tracking solutions are designed for containers and trailers when they are located at major ports or on board ship but once the cargo travels on land it may no longer be tracked and is susceptible to tampering. These problems have resulted in a number of global container and homeland security initiatives. Security seals are used primarily to protect cargo in transit after loading. Once the seals are broken then there may be no method to alert the shipper or customer.

FindWhere provides 24/7 tracking of containers and trailers using devices with a battery life of up to 3 years. The benefits of knowing where your assets include:
-
Global online tracking of container shipments and trailers beyond ship and port
-
Monitoring container contents, temperature, humidity, radiation levels
-
Monitor individual high value cargo shipments
-
Evidence and alert of unauthorized movement or location
-
Reduce the time and effort retrieving stolen goods
-
Reduced theft could lead to reduced insurance premiums
-
Supporting evidence for insurance claims
-
Evidence of first class quality control procedures
An automatic motion sensor will communicate via the FindWhere online service to notify when a container or trailer starts or stops moving. Periodic updates of locations can be set by the user online at intervals suiting their preference. Locations are shown on satellite maps and each location is stored for later reference. Safe zones or no-go zones can be defined to keep trailers inside certain geographic regions or do not allow them to go into certain countries. You don't have to monitor the movements continuously, an alert notification will be sent to your phone and/or email address automatically.
The tracking device is mounted on the shipping container or the trailer and uses GPS and GSM to notify FindWhere of its location. The device continuously monitors motion and on-board geofences once activated. The alerts can be switched on using the FindWhere browser based tracking service from anywhere in the world.
If hooked up to external sensors for example for tampering these will automatically trigger the device and report location information to FindWhere, the user's mobile phone or via email to the user's desk. If detailed mapping information is required, the user logs on to the secure Internet web site and can see the position on a detailed sattelite map. Users have the ability to provide application specific maps which can be made available through the FindWhere web site.
The devices can be fitted with optional sensors such as RFID for monitoring individual items of cargo, temperature, humidity, shock or with custom designed sensors to monitor other conditions such as radiation levels. Automatic alert of changing conditions and location are made direct to the user by text or email. The shipper or customer can then despatch someone to the incident or have a record of where the incident took place.
